Happy Independence Day, 2010 or el cuatro de julio!

It was not the traditional 4th of July here in Mexico. The kids really didn't make a big fuss over not having fireworks. Of course we missed the festivities that would be available to us around the Salt Lake area and, certainly, time with the cousins and family. Mexicans in the state of Quintana Roo celebrated by having an election. It wasn't really a big deal except that it is illegal to buy or sell alcohol from Friday night to Monday at 10am. The country of Mexico was actually dry for the weekend and we were here for this historic event.

We spent the day around the pool and ate a calzone while the kids had Subway for their Independence Day dinner. It is interesting to me that in the US we acknowledge Cinco de Mayo, but el Cuatro de Julio is just another day in Mexico. Can you hear the uproar in the US if we held elections on May 5th, and did not allow anyone to buy alcohol? That would be completely un-American... or Mexican!

The only party going on around here was a little gecko party at the pool. These little creatures are everywhere in the morning before people start coming outside. Aren't they cute?

We didn't do much of anything today except go to the pool and then the store and then back to the pool. Oh yes, then after dinner we went back to the pool again. Sydney could spend the whole day there.

Jay has really gotten into a relaxed state.

A close-up of the whiskers (which Natalie would like him to keep) and the long hair. For some reason the guys on La Quinta always ask if he's from California.
